Italian Bishops Commit to Interfaith State Religion. The Roman rite is "not an attack on the unity of the Church," Cardinal François-Xavier Bustillo, 57, of Ajaccio, France, told Italian daily Il Giornale on June 29. "The Church also has the Eastern rites, and even in the West we have many rites: I am thinking of the Ambrosian Rite, the Mozarabic Rite, or the Spanish Rite," the Spanish-born cardinal added. Cardinal Burke Sees "No State of Emergency": Ordaining bishops without a papal mandate will have to be punished, Cardinal Raymond Burke told PerMariam.com. He hopes Leo XIV will appoint cardinals to continue talks with the FSSPX, saying reconciliation remains possible. Cardinal Burke, a canon lawyer, rejected rumours that all FSSPX members could be declared excommunicated: "I don’t think that can be sustained". Furthermore, he dismissed the FSSPX's claim of a "state of emergency" to justify episcopal consecrations. During his homily, he claimed "a small incident" witnessed by all the leading figures of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, including the Prefect, the Secretary and the Undersecretary. The FSSPX said that they want to win over individuals but also societies for Christ. The alleged response from the Congregation: "Good luck." Monsignor Fellay comments: "They no longer believe it."
