Century Initiative for 100 million in Canada by 2100 is miguided

The Canadian group Century Initiative is pushing the idea that it would be good for the nation to have a population of 100 million by the year 2100. The believe that by greatly increasing immigration numbers over the decades Canada's economy, workforce and global influence will improve.
The group claims there are some people in governemnt and business leaders who support the idea. However, let's make it clear: it's not a government policy. During PM Justin Trudeau's ten years in power, from 2015 to 2025, Canada's population increased by close to 5 million.
Currently Canada's population is about 41.5 million, so the Century Initiative wants to nearly triple the number. This will require much higher immigration levels. Here's what Century Iniative won't tell Canadians. The nation's fertility rate is 1.24 children per woman. This is an "ultra-low fertility" similar to Japan and South Korea.
