New Ferula of Leo XIV Avoids "Nails of the Passion" of Christ

At the Eucharist of Epiphany in St Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo XIV introduced a new Ferula pontificalis for the first time, VaticanNews.va reports on January 13.
Unlike a bishop’s crozier, which ends in a curved hook, the papal pastoral staff is straight at the top.
The new ferula resembles the famous pastoral staff used by John Paul II, with its prominent cruciform design. However, it omits the crucifixion imagery.
"Christ is no longer depicted with the nails of the Passion," noted the Liturgical Office, "but with his glorified body, ascending to the Father."
It continued: "As in his appearances after Easter, the risen Lord shows his wounds as luminous signs of victory - a victory that does not erase human suffering, but surpasses it in the dawn of divine life."
The Ferula pontificalis has been in use since the late Middle Ages and was traditionally presented to a newly elected pope when he took possession of his cathedra at the Basilica of St John Lateran.

Thousands sue Pfizer over claims company's birth control gave them brain tumors… as pharma giant adds risk to label

missing teeth after taking birth control shot
Thousands of women are now suing pharmaceutical giant Pfizer over claims its popular birth control injection left them with 'life-changing' brain tumors.
Lawyers told the Daily Mail exclusively that Pfizer will have to stand trial on December 7, 2026, as more than 2,100 women across the US claim in publicly filed lawsuits that they were not warned that the birth control shot Depo-Provera had been linked to debilitating and potentially incurable, benign brain tumors.
Taken by 2million women every year, Depo-Provera is a decades-old contraceptive method that is injected into the arm or buttocks once every three months, delivering the synthetic hormone progestin to prevent pregnancy.
Recent studies done in the past two years, however, have found that the shot comes with than a 500 percent increased risk of developing brain tumors long after users stop taking the medication.
Last month, Pfizer added a warning label to Depo-Provera about the …

Spanish Archbishop Denounces Instrumentalization of Abuse - Only 0.6% Linked to the Church

Sex abuse is selectively and ideologically treated in public debate, writes Archbishop Jesús Sanz Montes of Oviedo, Spain, on Abc.es on January 11.
While condemning homosexual abuse cases within the Catholic Church, he argues that focusing almost exclusively on ecclesial cases risks obscuring the true scope of a crime that affects society as a whole.
Referring to official reports, Archbishop Sanz Montes emphasizes that the majority of abuse cases occur in non-religious contexts: within families, schools, sports organizations, residential care facilities, and other civil institutions.
According to Archbishop Sanz Montes, if the true goal is justice for all victims, then governments and public institutions should assume responsibility for abuses that occurred under their oversight or within their spheres of competence.
Furthermore, the Archbishop argues that a society that trivializes sexuality, weakens moral reference points, and allows unrestricted access to harmful material - such as …تېخىمۇ كۆپ

The Council Fathers on Vatican II

There is plenty of evidence to show that Bishops and Cardinals who attended Vatican Council II were concerned from the start about its timing, its content and the serious omissions found in its documents.
While there is no doubt that it was a pivotal moment in the history of the Church, Vatican II represents for some a devastating rupture with Catholicism as it was always taught, while it remains for others the surprising revelation of a Catholicism which had hitherto not been discovered.
As a liberal, Pope Leo XIV falls into the latter camp and has
announced that he will begin a new catechesis series on Vatican II. He believes we must “continue to seek ways and means to implement its insights” and that “it will be important to get to know it again closely.”
In more conservative circles, many have woken up to the fact that implementation was never the problem. Like Communism, which its loyal adherents say has “not yet been implemented properly”, Vatican II contains integral errors …

Some people say Catholics leave the Church because Catholicism is weak.
But here’s the real question: "Why do people usually leave because they never learned the faith, while many converts enter because they studied it deeply?"
History shows a clear pattern. When Catholics are poorly catechized, they often drift away without knowing what the Church actually teaches about Scripture, the Eucharist, the sacraments, or apostolic authority. The Bible itself warns us about this reality: “My people perish for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).
At the same time, many former Protestants tell the opposite story. They didn’t convert because of emotions or pressure. They converted after serious study. They read the early Church Fathers. They examined how the Bible was formed. They studied the Eucharist, apostolic succession, and the authority Christ gave to the Church. And the more they studied, the more Catholic Christianity matched what they found in history and Scripture.

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord | Do you want to rise with us from the depths of an abyss?
In Jesus' time, many religious sects practiced baptism. The rite had many meanings, but one was of particular importance: (their past life was erased, as if swept away by the current) and with the immersion came the birth of a new man to whom, naturally, a new name was given.
John performed this ceremony to welcome all those who wanted to become his disciples. He baptized those who decided to change their lives to prepare for the coming of the Messiah, announced as imminent. The first condition for receiving baptism was to recognize oneself as a sinner; it was for this reason that the Pharisees and Sadducees, who considered themselves righteous and without sin, felt they did not need it.
If this was the meaning of John's baptism, it is not clear why Jesus received it; He did not need to change his life, and his …تېخىمۇ كۆپ

Is baptism necessary for salvation ?

mastercatechism.com
Yes, baptism is necessary for salvation. The Church teaches that without baptism, one cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven, as stated by Christ: "Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:5).
However, there are exceptions recognized by the Church. Those who die without baptism but have not committed sin through no fault of their own will not go to hell, but they will not see God or heaven. Instead, they will be in a state of natural peace, deprived of the beatific vision (V16 Kinkead Explanation of the Baltimore Catechism 1891 226:1).
Additionally, the Church acknowledges two other forms of baptism that can substitute for the sacrament of water baptism under certain circumstances: the baptism of blood (martyrdom) and the baptism of desire (a sincere desire for baptism combined with perfect contrition for sins) (V17 Cafferata The Catechism Simply Explained 1932 244:2; V8 Frassinetti A Dogmatic Catechism …تېخىمۇ كۆپ

2 Timothy 4:22 -- The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. -- Will unbaptized infants go to heaven?
mastercatechism.com -- Provided the following:
The Church teaches that unbaptized infants do not enter heaven, as they lack the beatific vision of God due to original sin. However, they do not suffer the same penalties as those who have committed personal sin. Instead, it is believed that they may experience a state of natural happiness, without the pain of sense, as they are not aware of their deprivation of the beatific vision (V0 Schneider Credo 2023 273:5; V18 Gasparri The Catholic Catechism 1932 211:2).
The destiny of these infants remains a mystery entrusted to God's loving providence, and while we can hope for God's mercy, their ultimate fate is not definitively known (V0 Schneider Credo 2023 274:1; V8 Frassinetti A Dogmatic Catechism 1872 65:4).

Who is the patron saint of doorkeepers?

If someone told you a humble doorkeeper would become one of the most beloved saints of modern times, you might raise an eyebrow. Yet that is exactly the story of St. André Bessette, a simple lay brother whose life reminds us that every role in the Church has dignity, purpose, and spiritual power.
Born Alfred Bessette in 1845 in Quebec, Canada, André spent much of his life struggling with poor health and self-doubt. When he entered religious life with the Congregation of Holy Cross, he was assigned what many at the time considered the least important job: doorkeeper. He stood at the entrance of St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, greeting visitors, opening doors, and offering a warm word or simple prayer to everyone who passed by.
A Door Was Never “Just a Door”
One day, a young man arrived at the oratory, deeply discouraged and feeling unloved. He sighed to André, “I have nowhere to turn.” Without hesitation, André replied, “Let us pray together.” This moment became the beginning …

Hilton Hotels removing Minneapolis franchise location after it again denied DHS booking

Hampton Inn, Lakeville, MN.

Hilton Hotels said Tuesday that it will sever ties with a franchise hotel in the Minneapolis area after a new video showed a desk clerk there refusing to book rooms for a person claiming to be a Department of Homeland Security agent.
Hilton’s statement came a day after the company that owns the location, Everpeak Hospitality, apologized for canceling a prior reservation for real DHS agents because of their work on immigration enforcement, and said that such a ban was not consistent with its policy of “being a welcoming place for all.”
“The independent hotel owner had assured us that they had fixed this problem and published a message confirming this,” Hilton said in a statement Tuesday on the social media site X, which was also sent by a spokesperson to CNBC.
“A recent video clearly raises concerns that they are not meeting our standards and values,” Hilton said. “As such, we are taking immediate action to remove this hotel from our systems.” …
