Jesus downplays his mother

And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you. But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?” And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers Mark 3:31–34

While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Someone told Him, “Look, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You.” But Jesus replied, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers? For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”…Matt 12.50

Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” Luke 8:19–21

Few things anger the enemies of Christ more than the praise of The Most Blessed Virgin Mary. The Mother of God; The Immaculate Conception.
Hail Mary Full of Grace The Lord is with thee, Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

chris griffin

@ rhemes1582....why do you say meaningless crap to me. I haven't insulted the BVM. For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” You don't even care that Jesus said that YOU can be his mother.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin You pretend innocence. So I repeat my very first comment on this article which would have ended all of this: "The headline for this post needs to be changed or removed immediately."
Instead, you prefer that passage to be about Jesus "downplays his mother"

Venerable Bede: "Our Lord does not refuse to go out through any, or in the least, inattention to his mother...." (Ven. Bede)

Ave Crux

Revelations of Jesus and Mary to Sister Lucia of Fatima about offenses against Her Immaculate Heart that God Himself wants mankind to make reparation for:
Mary: “Look My daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and announce in My name that I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the First Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making Reparation to Me.”
Our Lord explained to Lucia why He seeks five Saturdays of reparation:
“There are five types of blasphemies and offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
* Blasphemies against Her Immaculate Conception.
* Blasphemies against Her Perpetual Virginity.
* Blasphemies against Her Divine Maternity, in refusing at the same time to recognize Her as the Mother of men.
* Blasphemies of those who publicly seek to sow in the hearts of children indifference or scorn, or even hatred of this Immaculate Mother.
* Offenses of those who outrage Her directly in Her holy images.”
Lucia summed up why we must attach such great importance to this devotion:

“Our Good Lord in His infinite Mercy asked me … to make reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and to implore pardon and mercy in favor of souls who blaspheme against Her, because the Divine Mercy does not pardon these souls without reparation.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux....First this is private revelation which no Catholic must believe or obey and second, I have violated none of the offenses mentioned. In am perfectly able to add my own insight into Bible verses. You on the other hand have played the Nazi by threating me on my death bed. You are a Nazi plain as day. You are ready to put me in the oven for your imagined superiority, Hiel Hitler!

Ave Crux

@chris griffin "threating" you on your death bed...? 😂 I merely point out the obvious, that:
1) Every single day we pray in the Hail Mary: "Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for me, now and at the hour of my death." and
2) Our Lady made a promise to those who love and revere Her: "I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the First Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making Reparation to Me."
And yet, rather than showing love and devotion for the Blessed Mother who makes these promises, you alienate Her.
All you have done here on Gloria.TV is impugn Her dignity -- even going so far as implicating Our Lord Jesus Christ in the process by claiming He "downplayed" Her, when it was quite the opposite, as explained by Catholic Exegesis and doctrine, as He was pointing out Her fidelity to the Will of God.
You have also called into question the many times God Himself sent Our Lady as His emissary. Fatima certainly being beyond question, as Our Lady announced beforehand a miracle as great as the parting of the Red Sea would take place on a specific day at a specific time, and was witnessed by over 70,000 people at the same exact moment, putting it beyond doubt.
At Fatima, Mary said "In October I will perform a miracle so that all may believe." And that's exactly what happened. Even the Socialists and atheists who came to mock it believed upon witnessing the miracle of the sun.....but not you.
Rather than "downplaying" Mary yourself, over and over on this website, you should revere and extol Her privileges as the Catholic Church does.

chris griffin

@ rhemes1582 You are an idiot. I said nothing not already expressed in the bible passages. It is no wonder the Catholic Church is in such trouble when people like you are free to be say and believe stupid things.

rhemes1582

@chris griffin
JESUS elevates His Mother by showing she is 1st always for She is always 1st with His Sacred Heart in doing His and the Father's Will. May their Sacred Hearts be praised.
Go to confession chris griffen, for trolling and insulting The Mother of God ;The Blessed Virgin Mary again publicly.

chris griffin

@ rhemes1582 You are an idiot. I said nothing not already expressed in the bible passages. It is no wonder the Catholic Church is in such trouble when people like you are free to be say and believe stupid things.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin So now you also make yourself your own authority on how to understand the scriptures you cited instead of referring to the Catholic Church's teaching on those same scriptures and how we are to understand the unique and indispensable role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in salvation history -- a role appointed and arranged by God when He conceived Himself within her, making Her "Spouse of the Holy Ghost" -- and the veneration of hyperdulia which the Catholic Church herself teaches us that we owe her as the Mother of God. You are clearly a Protestant not a Catholic with your self-referential authority.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux.... I would implore you please stick to the facts. I believe in the Biblical Mary and the Catholic Mary. I also believe in these Bible verses that Jesus refused to talk to her when she wanted to talk. Jesus said that anyone can become Jesus' mother!!!! Jesus repeated this verse 3 times in the Bible so no body would miss it.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin As I say below, your reductionist comment about the character of your post is belied by its title: JESUS DOWNPLAYS HIS MOTHER. That's blasphemy. He did no such thing.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux.... Yes he did. That was God talking to a creature. Wise up man.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin I suggest you wise up. You are in stark contradiction of the Catholic Church teaching and make yourself your own authority on how to understand sacred scripture and Catholic doctrine regarding Our Lady. It's disgraceful.
You will regret it on your death bed since at that moment when we stand most in need of grace, Our Lady has promised "to assist at the moment of death with all the graces necessary for salvation" those who have made the First Saturdays in reparation to Her Immaculate Heart. And yet, in life, you have impugned Her great dignity and privileges. Here is the full revelation, which makes mention of how Our lady's heart is pierced with thorns by the blasphemies of men:
“Look My daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and announce in My name that I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the First Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making Reparation to Me.”

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux...you are mentally a disturbed person. you have no comprehensive of Catholic right to comment on scripture. I have not denied any Church or Bible dogma. That is your mental disturbance lying to you. This is actually scarry to have such hatred on this site for no reason other then you enjoy it. I hope you get over it before you die.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin look in the mirror....you insult Jesus Himself and the Mother of God, and you expect Catholics not to rise to indignation. That's what our Confirmation is for. You know what Saint Thomas Aquinas says about that? He says that not to be indignant when it is called for is to sin by defect.
"Saint Thomas Aquinas taught that anger is justified when it arises from a just cause, specifically when directed at injustice, because anger seeks the good of justice."
How much more so when it is the sin of blasphemy against Jesus and Mary on a Catholic website.
I don't have an atom of "hatred" for you.... I have absolute indignation regarding your blasphemy on this website. You degrade Our Lord Himself by CLAIMING He "DOWNPLAYED" His own Mother....! I will defend the honor of Both, even as you defame it.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux...you continue to be deranged. I have not violated any catholic or biblical dogma. You have a delusion like Nazis hunting Jews.

chris griffin

Mary has no claim on Jesus because of bloodline. Jesus specifically included his mother in proclaiming that his mother is not a specially privileged person. Jesus never said and his wrong to for you to say " the importance of US doing as His Mother does..' because he never said that.

Ave Crux

You have fully exposed yourself. There is clearly a dark spirit in anyone who does not revere the Blessed Virgin Mary according to CATHOLIC CHURCH TEACHING. That is, that the Blessed Virgin Mary is due the veneration of hyperdulia.
Even the Angel Gabriel hailed the Virgin Mary with explicit reverence: "Hail, Full of Grace!"
And even St Elizabeth revered the Blessed Virgin Mary, saying "How is it that the Mother of my Lord should come to me? Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!"
And Our Lady Herself declared, "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed, for He who is mighty has done great things in me."
SHE WAS CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN....remained Immaculate Her entire life and was Assumed into Heaven! How dare you say that she was not a specially privileged person! That is to deny Infallible Doctrines of the Catholic Church.
In fact, the entire series of apparitions at Fatima include a specific request for a Five First Saturday devotion of Communions of Reparation to Her Immaculate Heart, requested by God, specifically for such crimes and insults as yours against the honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fatima is approved by the Church as an authentic apparition, confirmed by a miracle witnessed by more than 70,000 people....even atheists and Communists who came to mock it.
Read this, for you are clearly in spiritual trouble, my brother:

In the vast and beautiful universe of Catholic devotion there exists a form of veneration reserved solely for the Most Holy Virgin Mary: Hyperdulia. This term, derived from the Greek hyper (above) and dulia (service of veneration), distinguishes the special honor we give to the Mother of God above that given to the Saints (dulia) but always below the worship owed to God alone (latria). In a world where Marian devotion is often misunderstood or even attacked, it is crucial to understand with theological depth and filial love why the Catholic Church honors Mary in a unique way.
Hyperdulia: The Unique Veneration of the Most …

You're not even Catholic, or you're a troll.

chris griffin

You have fully exposed yourself as a fool. I have written nothing against the BVM. I don't think that Jesus said the word " Hyperdulia' . You are not educated as a Catholic and you don't have an ounce of Catholic sense or you are under the spell of an evil spirit.

rhemes1582

@Ave Crux
God bless you sir. 🙏

Ave Crux

@chris griffin I will restate my reply above and comment further:
So now you also make yourself your own authority on how to understand the scriptures you cited instead of referring to the Catholic Church's teaching and infallible doctrine on those same scriptures and how we are to understand the unique and indispensable role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in salvation history -- a role appointed and arranged by God.
God formed and chose the Blessed Virgin Mary for this unique role, as the faithful, Immaculate Virgin, and God conceived Himself within her, making Her "Spouse of the Holy Ghost" [that's nothing "special"?].
"Mary is referred to as the spouse of the Holy Spirit because of her unique role in the Incarnation of Jesus, where the Holy Spirit overshadowed her, leading to the virginal conception of Christ. This title symbolizes her deep devotion to God and her special relationship with the Trinity."
Therefore, the veneration of hyperdulia is accorded Her, which the Catholic Church herself teaches that we owe her as the "Mother of God" (defined at the Council at Ephesus). You are clearly a Protestant, and think like a Protestant, not a Catholic with your self-referential authority and lack of reverence for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
May God forgive you for insulting the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom God Himself elevated to become His "Spouse" and conceive the Word Incarnate within Her, with Her permission.
Mother of God
Pope Benedict XVI
"The ancient title of the Blessed Virgin expresses Mary's unique mission in salvation history and her key role in the mystery of Christ and the Church.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux....I have never denied any of that Period.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin Yes, you did. You said "Jesus specifically included his mother in proclaiming that his mother is not a specially privileged person." That's outrageous blasphemy and a clear contradiction of everything the Catholic Church has ever taught. Take it back and remove this post.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux,,, I said... "Jesus treated his mother as anyone else with her. Jesus did not stop to attend to her and he refused to talk to her and said anybody can be like his mother."That is exactly true in these 3 passages. I never denied any Catholic or Biblical dogma about Mary.

Ave Crux

The headline for this post needs to be changed or removed immediately. It is blasphemous to even suggest that Jesus "downplayed" His Mother and it's a completely erroneous misunderstanding of that passage. On the contrary, Jesus was elevating the understanding of what family is. It wasn't what Our Lord was negating, it was about what He was adding: the importance of US doing as His Mother does..
Exegesis on Mark 3 is as follows:
"In Mark 3:31-34, Jesus redefines the concept of family in the context of spiritual relationships. This passage highlights the importance of obedience to God over traditional familial ties.
"In Mark 3:31-34, Jesus emphasizes that true familial bonds are formed through doing the will of God, rather than through biological relationships. When His mother and brothers seek Him, He responds by indicating that those who follow Him and obey God are His true family."
"Mark 3:31–35 records Jesus redefining family membership around spiritual commitment rather than biological kinship. Jesus declares that anyone who does God's will becomes his mother, brother, and sister."

And here is Venerable Bede's commentary on that passage. Again, it's about Our Lord using that moment to teach His disciples about an "ascesis" of heart, about a perfect supernatural orientation in our entire lives, even as pertains to our familial bonds. Notice, Venerable does not say anything about "downplaying" His Mother, but about absolute attention to the supernatural duties we have to God:
Venerable Bede: "Our Lord does not refuse to go out through any, or in the least, inattention to his mother; he wishes hereby, to teach us the preference we should give to the business of our heavenly Father, before that of our earthly parents. Neither does he consider his brethren as beneath his attention, but prefers spiritual before temporal duties; and shews us, that a religious union of hearts and feelings is far more lasting, and better rooted than any other ties of affinity or friendship whatsoever." (Ven. Bede)

chris griffin

Jesus treated his mother as anyone else with her. Jesus did not stop to attend to her and he refused to talk to her and said anybody can be like his mother. It is quite accurate to say he downplayed her weather or not you were taught that way.

frawley

@chris griffin 1. Gave his mother to the apostle John from the cross. He did not do this for any other woman. He talked to her at the wedding feast of Canna. Anyone can strive to be holy like his mother but clearly cannot bear Jesus as a son. You seem to have some real issues when it comes to Our Lady both in the time of Christ and her appearances since.

chris griffin

@ frawley... My original post is about Jesus refusing to talk to his mother when she wanted to talk and said anyone can be like his brother or mother. Seems plain enough but some people have no discernment. I did not talk about the other things you mentioned. Stay focused on what I said in my post instead of all the other stuff in the Bible.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin Your reductionist comment about the character of your post is belied by its title: JESUS DOWNPLAYS HIS MOTHER. That's blasphemy. He did no such thing.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux Again, 3 times for emphasis, Jesus refused to talk to her when she wanted to talk to him and he said that anybody can be his mother
Yes the God of the universe talked down to his creature mother.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin So I suppose you will need a Venn diagram to understand that the overlap that Our Lord speaks of here regarding the perfect alignment of our will with the Will of God does not somehow circumscribe the otherwise vast universe of Our Lady's extraordinary and unique privileges in contrast to the rest of the human race and the fact that She is granted by the Church -- for that very reason -- the exalted and privileged veneration of hyperdulia. SHE IS QUEEN OF HEAVEN and EARTH, CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN, MOTHER OF GOD, SPOUSE OF THE HOLY GHOST, FULL OF GRACE, BLESSED AMONGST WOMEN, WOMAN CLOTHED WITH THE SUN, SINLESS, ASSUMED INTO HEAVEN, MEDIATRIX OF ALL GRACE (which is why the Church promulgates the Miraculous medal),and the list goes on and on.

chris griffin

@ Ave Crux... I never denied any of that... you are full of crap from top to bottom. You are a Nazi who thinks he has found a Jew to kill... that is how deranged you are.

Ave Crux

@chris griffin I will quote back to you your own words: "Jesus specifically included his mother in proclaiming that his mother is not a specially privileged person." That is your denial of Catholic Teaching. That is not what that scripture means, and you should read the exegesis by Ven. Bede on that matter which accords with Catholic doctrine, instead of polluting these pages with your self-referential propaganda.
