Cardinal Woelki: Novus Ordo Not Inferior to Tridentine Rite in Beauty and Dignity

The Mass in the traditional Roman rite plays “no separate or prominent role” in the Archdiocese of Cologne, "conservative" Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki told Die-Tagespost.de on the occasion of his 70th birthday on August 17.
“I see myself entirely at home in the tradition and teaching of the Second Vatican Council,” Cardinal Woelki said. The liturgical reform was “one of the essential reforms” of Vatican II.
The cardinal expressed gratitude to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP), which celebrates the Roman liturgy at designated locations in the archdiocese. “I see this as an enrichment, because there have always been different rites in the Church,” he explained.
His but: “The Novus Ordo Missae has a beauty and dignity that is in no way inferior to the Tridentine rite.”
For Cardinal Woelki, the ars celebrandi is decisive.
Liturgical abuses are not confined to the Novus Ordo, Cardinal Woelki believes. If Mass were merely "rattled off in ten to twelve minutes" - something that …More

Hat Kardinal Woelki überhaupt Ahnung vom Tridentinischen Ritus? Hat er in diesem Ritus schon einmal eine Hl. Messe gelesen? Die Zelebration ist keine "Kunst" (!!!), sie ist HINGABE AN DAS OPFER CHRISTI ! ! ! Der Novus Ordo ist armselig!

Cardinal Woelki says Novus Ordo not inferior to Latin Mass in ‘beauty and dignity’

The N O is an abomination in comparison to the TLM.

Louis IX

If any part of the NO has dignity and beauty matching the TLM it is only because that part that is beautiful is a remnant part of the Old Rite that was spared from the butcher’s (Bugnini’s) knife.

Some Good News

You're kidding me. "looks to Protestants...Anglican". Let's imitate the "church" that's responsible for 2% "church" attendance of its population, and the very identify of the British may be erased? They're grasping for straws.

“The Novus Ordo Missae has a beauty and dignity that is in no way inferior to the Tridentine rite.” I don't think that is true. There is a lack of coherency inherent in it no matter how devoutly offered. I have on a few occasions attended a devoutly offered Latin Novus Ordo without knowing much about the Tridentine Rite having just started attending. The Offertory is so short the heart is not prepared for the consecration, in addition there is the irritation of the "you say I say" dialogue that disturbs full participation. Let alone the very many other shortcomings.
He does make a serious and important point though concerning offering priest. I have heard of very short low Masses rattled off in record time in the past. It is sad to think of such a thing now. A lack of piety on the part of the priest and negligent liturgical oversight on part of the Bishop is toxic to any liturgy.
In the end of the day though you have to face one telling fact. No one, not even a heretic modernist would ever juxtapose as follows:
“The Tridentine Rite has a beauty and dignity that is in no way inferior to the Novus Ordo Missae ” . It simply would never occur to the mind to defend the Tridentine Rite's beauty and dignity against that of the Novus Ordo in that order. It is universally recognised as superior even if despised by her enemies. May God be glorified with the choicest liturgy!

"Methinkst he doth protest too much." 'Beauty and dignity', when present, are quite apparent when extant, and speak for themselves eloquently without need for an apologist. 'Have you no eyes to see, nor ears to hear'?!

It's like comparing Beef Wellington to a McDonald's hamburger.
